US Open No. 1 seeds: Rafael Nadal and Karolina Pliskova

Rafael Nadal and Karolina Pliskova are the top seeds for the U.S. Open, which starts on Monday.

The seeds were announced Thursday. The U.S. Open draw will take place Friday.

Nadal won the French Open in June and is the top-ranked men's player in the world. He also earned top seeds in the U.S. Open in 2008 and 2010. Nadal has won the U.S. Open twice.

Andy Murray is the No. 2 seed and Roger Federer is the No. 3 seed. John Isner is the highest ranked American with the No. 10 seed.

Pliskova is currently the top-ranked women's player in the world and is the No. 1 seed in a major tournament for the first time in her career.

Simona Halep is the No. 2 seed and Garbine Muguruza is the No. 3 seed.

Venus Williams is the highest ranked American with the No. 9 seed.

On the men's side, defending champion Stan Wawrinka, two-time winner Novak Djokovic, 2014 finalist Kei Nishikori and world No. 11 Milos Raonic are not competing in this year's U.S. Open.

Serena Williams, who has won six U.S. Open titles, won the Australian Open in January, but missed the French Open and Wimbledon and will miss the U.S. Open. Williams announced in April that she was pregnant.
