US Open 2019: Jamie Murray on course for hat-trick of mixed doubles titles

Jamie Murray remains on course for a hat-trick of US Open mixed doubles titles after booking his place in the final with Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

Earlier, Murray had bounced back from a 5-2 final-set deficit in the men’s doubles quarter-finals with Neal Skupski against Jack Sock and Jackson Withrow for a 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 win.

His success with Mattek-Sands, with whom he won the 2018 title at Flushing Meadows, having also sealed the title in 2017 with Martina Hingis, was infinitely easier, as they beat Samantha Stosur and Rajeev Ram 6-3, 6-1.

Murray said: “We were on fire. We didn’t give them a chance. I’m really happy to be in the final again.”

They take on No1 seeds Chan Hao-ching and Michael Venus in Saturday’s final while, in the last four of the men’s doubles, another No1 pairing in Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal lie in wait tonight.

Of booking their semi-final place, Murray said: “We did really well. We fought hard and it was a tough match. Both guys have big serves.”
