A Kilwinning figure skater who overcome incredible odds to win a national title was stunned to receive a message of congratulations from his sporting idol.
Last week we reported how Isaac Middleton, 15, was crowned Men’s Novice Champion at the Inclusive Skating British International Virtual Championships.
The competition is for skaters who face additional challenges and thanks to the power of social media, Isaac’s inspiring story reached American skating star and Olympic bronze medallist Jason Brown – the youngster’s all-time hero.
The 2015 US National Champion shared the online version of an Irvine Herald story on his Twitter feed, commenting: “Keep up the great work Isaac! You got a new fan cheering you on from the States!
Isaac has autism and pathological demand avoidance which combine to make some every day tasks such as being asked to put on his shoes or coat a real ordeal.
His proud mum Debbie said: “Isaac hasn’t stopped smiling since he saw Jason’s message. It's made his year!
"He’s hoping that other families now realise that inclusive skating is an option and others join in.”
