US officials tuck into Irn-Bru and deep fried Mars bars ahead of COP26 in Glasgow

This is the hilarious moment US officials try deep fried Mars bars and Irn-Bru ahead of COP26.

Philip Reeker, the charge d'affaires at the US embassy in London, shared a video of American diplomats tucking into iconic Scots cuisine as they prepare to head to Glasgow for the eco summit.

In the clip shared on Twitter, they started off by swigging some Irn-Bru, which they found tricky to pronounce, before diving into some Cullen Stink.

They were huge fans of the traditional soup, admitting ‘I could eat that all day long’ before saying it would go perfectly with some square sausage.

Some of the group suggested adding cheese to Lorne sausage and even suggested McDonalds look into introducing it to their menu.

Moving onto haggis, some were hesitant to try the dish made up of sheep heart lungs and liver.

But others braved the taste and were pleasantly surprised by how delicious they found it.

They were also pleasantly surprised by the deep fried mars bar, saying that it reminded them of American carnival food.

Cranachan was next on the list, which proved to be a big hit while cheekily saying it reminded them ‘that Scotland has a summer’.

Nicola Sturgeon wished the US ambassadors a ‘warm welcome’ as she shared a video of them tasting the food.

The First Minister tweeted : “Enjoying the best of Scottish food and drink - thank you @USAmbUK.

“Wishing you a warm welcome to #COP26 in Glasgow.”
