Us movie spoilers: Jordan Peele on why he used I Got 5 On It for THAT scene

Have you seen Us yet?

The hit new horror movie from Get Out director Jordan Peele focuses on the Wilson family as their summer holiday turns nightmarish when their evil doubles - The Tethered - arrive at their home and wreak violent havoc on them.

One prominent part of the film's aesthetic and its promotional material was the beloved song I Got 5 On It by Luniz.

The song is given a deadly remix for a climactic "ballet" scene between Adelaide Wilson and double Red - both played by Lupita Nyong'o.

Now Peele has told Empire that there was almost a very different choice for the scene.

Originally their dance would have been shown to the sounds of Tchaikovsky’s ‘Pas De Deux’ from The Nutcracker .

"We put that in the first cut, and it wasn’t working," Peele admitted to the publication.

The reason for the change was he wanted something that seemed a bit less try-hard.

"To me, as a viewer, it felt sort of old-school, a little bit pretentious even.

"Like I listen to Tchaikovsky on a regular basis and I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, let’s try this piece of music.’"

He also discussed why he wanted Us to mix up genres a bit too.

"The shift in genre from home invasion to zombie invasion is kind of satisfying," Peele says. "Let’s be honest, the wide-scale version is more fun than the home invasion. I think there’s a little bit of a relief that we’re all in this together in a weird way, and that this is going to become a more heightened story."

Us is in UK cinemas now.
