Us movie: Jordan Peele reveals true meaning behind horror film in exclusive clip

Just how do you ensure you make a good horror film?

Get Out director Jordan Peele and leading lady Lupita Nyong'o discuss how they made the thoroughly effective horror film Us in this new exclusive clip.

The film follows parents Adelaide (Nyong'o) and Gabriel (Winston Duke)_as they take their two children on a summer holiday but soon find their new home invaded by deadly and terrifying doppelgangers known as the Tethered.

But what do these evil doubles want?

"I think horror and comedy are a really great way of exposing how we feel about things," reveals Jordan Peele in the clip.

Peele adds: "I find the comedy that emerges from a scene in a horror film is very necessary to release the tension and give the audience the opportunity to emotionally catch up and get prepared for the next run of terror."

On the true meaning beneath the surface of Us, Peele says: "I think all great horror has a social message of some sort, when it works it's tapping into something that we're suppressing.

"I have a definite world of things that I'm trying to say with this film, all relating to our duality as human beings and the guilt and sins that we bury deep within ourselves and I'm curious to see what the audience sees in it."

Lupita Nyong'o also discusses Peele's "infectious" enthusiasm and passion for filmmaking whilst working on Us.

The upcoming home release of the film will include six deleted scenes, various featurettes behind making the film and extended version of that memorable dance sequence between Adelaide and Tethered leader Red.

Us is released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand on July 29, 2019.
