Us movie: Jordan Peele reveals inspiration from classic TV series

The director of the new acclaimed horror movie Us has revealed its television inspiration.

Director Jordan Peele, who won an Oscar for his Original Screenplay for seminal horror Get Out, revealed what television series was a major influence on his new film.

Us is the story of a family heading on a vacation and events turn nightmarish when a family of doppelgängers invade their home and create utter chaos.

Speaking with Rolling Stone regarding the new horror starring Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke and Elisabeth Moss, Peele mentioned The Twilight Zone as being the series that influenced the film.

"It’s terrifying, beautiful, really elegant storytelling," Peele says of the specific episode Mirror Image, "and it opens up a world. It opens up your imagination."

Peele watched the episode as a child. In the story, a woman (played by Psycho actress Vera Miles) believes she has encountered her own nefarious double from a parallel universe at a bus stop and believes it is intent on replacing her.

Peele will also be the new face, voice and creative maestro behind the upcoming revamp of the anthology series, due out later this year and starring big names such as John Cho, Taissa Farmiga, Chris O'Dowd, and Zazie Beetz.

Parks and Recreations star Adam Scott will appear in a remake of the iconic original series episode Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, which featured William Shatner.

The story focuses on a man on an airplane journey when he begins to see a terrifying creature on the wing of the plane who is sabotaging the aircraft.

We are sure Peele will bring the magic touch to the series.

Us is released in UK cinemas on March 22, 2019.
