RIO DE JANEIRO _ Throughout the Olympics, one of Team USA's best offensive weapons, Klay Thompson, had yet to become engaged.
Thompson broke out in a big way against France on Sunday as he led the U.S. to a 100-97 victory with 30 points and seven 3-pointers.
The U.S. remained undefeated and advances to the quarterfinals on Wednesday. France played without one of its best players in Spurs guard Tony Parker, who sat out the game because of a toe injury.
Even without Parker, France was able to get as close as 83-79 halfway in the fourth quarter before the U.S. pulled away and eventually held on for the win.
Kevin Durant added 17 for the U.S.
