US marks eight years since Virginia's strong earthquake

Eight years ago, a magnitude-5.8 earthquake hit the US state of Virginia, southwest of Washington, DC.

It shook the American capital so strongly that it cracked the Washington Monument and caused $20m of damage to the National Cathedral.

Today, stonemasons are still repairing the Gothic stonework the earthquake shook loose.
