US Government's 'hurricane hunting' jet diverts to Dublin Airport due to fog in Shannon

A US Government flight diverted to Dublin Airport due to fog in Shannon.

The US Commerce Department's jet was due to land in Clare at 11.24 this morning but instead had to fly to the capital due to the bad conditions.

The plane, a Lockheed WP-3D, is used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The jets are used for environmental and science missions funded by the US Government.

These include overseeing divers, hurricane surveillance, and environmental research.

Flight NOAA42 left Halifax in Canada at 12.57am this morning and was due to land in Shannon at 11.24am.

It instead landed in Dublin at around 2.10pm.
