US flight from Newark to Frankfurt diverts to Dublin Airport due to medical emergency

A flight from the US to Europe has been forced to divert to Dublin Airport due to a medical emergency.

United Airlines flight UA960 was nearing the end of its journey from Newark, New Jersey to Frankfurt in Germany.

But as it was heading over the UK, it declared an emergency and was forced to divert to Dublin.

The incident happened just after 6.20am this morning when it turned as it was coming over Ayr in Scotland.

After heading over the Irish sea, it eventually landed into Dublin just before 6.50am.

It is understood that a passenger was taken to hospital after the plane was met by medical personnel.

Another passenger on board the flight said that the jet was refueling ahead of the final leg of the journey to Frankfurt.

A United Airlines spokesman told Dublin Live: "United flight 960 from New York/Newark to Frankfurt diverted to Dublin today due to a passenger requiring medical assistance. The flight has since taken off from Dublin and has arrived at Frankfurt."
