The US is still waiting for the results of the closely-fought presidential election in 20 years, with crucial tallies from a handful of key battleground states set to determine who will get to the White House.
Joe Biden looked tantalisingly close to the finishing line, with projections that he has secured up to 264 out of the 270 electoral college votes needed. In a potentially pivotal moment in the 2020 US election, the Democratic candidate has inched ahead in the traditionally Republican stronghold of Georgia, as well as in Pennsylvania.
He will be expected to win by taking just one more state if the projections are right. Mr Trump, however, is running out of time to save his presidency and must win at least four of the five swing states still to be declared.
His trademark confidence was absent during his Thursday night speech from the White House, with commentators noting he appeared “defeated” as he doubled down on unsubstantiated claims he was being cheated out of re-election.
