US Department of Travel issues warning of 'potential of violence' at Longitude Festival

A warning about the "potential for violence" has been issued by the US State Department for Travel about the Longitude Festival taking place in Dublin this weekend.

Gardai have said a "full and comprehensive" policing plan is in place for the annual event, which is taking place in Marlay Park until Sunday.

They even kept the public updated during last night's set, and said "nothing to see here folks except good fun, good music and above all a very enjoyable evening."

But the bizarre warning issued by the US Department warns people to "exercise caution" and "keep a low profile" if in the area.

Headliners at this year's festival include Ski Mask the Slump God, Stormzy and Cardi B, with acts such as Future, Versatile and Dave also on the line-up.

The warning on the State Department's website reads: "Reports indicate a potential for violence at the Longitude Festival taking place from July 5-7, 2019, in Marlay Park, Dublin.

"Local police are aware of the threat and will conduct comprehensive bag and person searches. The police have increased event security and are monitoring the situation."

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid Marlay Park and the areas surrounding the park
  • Exercise caution if in the vicinity
  • Monitor local media for updates
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep a low profile
  • Notify friends and family of your safety

Last night, gardai said that "no incidents have been reported to date" at the annual festival.

Sharing some great pictures of the event on Twitter, they said: "Longitude at Marley Park this evening, everyone in great form and enjoying the fun & frolics. Weather is terrific and the craic is mighty…. Enjoy folks."
