US couple finds $1.8million winning lottery ticket while cleaning house for Thanksgiving

A couple in America found a £1.4million ($1.8 million) winning lottery ticket while cleaning up their house.

Harold and Tina Ehrenberg were cleaning their Louisiana home ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday when they found some forgotten lottery tickets.

Upon checking the website, they were shocked to find that they had a winning ticket.

Ms Ehrenberg told Louisiana Lottery: “We kept checking the numbers again and again. Plus, I called the winning numbers hotline over and over.”

The couple were just in time as the tickets were due to expire two weeks later. Prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the draw.

After tax, the couple will take home £995,306 ($1,274,313).

According to the couple, they plan to put the money away for retirement.

Ms Ehrenberg said: “We don’t have any plans to buy anything crazy or go on any big trips. The most fun is going to be depositing that check.”

The store in which the winning ticket also won a cash payout of £14,014 ($17,948.07), one per cent of the prize.
