RIO DE JANEIRO _ A day after Ryan Lochte and three other American swimmers were robbed at gunpoint, the U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro issued a security message reminding visitors to be "alert and cautious" while traveling around the city.
The one-paragraph "security message" Monday singled out criminal activity on beaches and traffic jams.
"Groups of thieves who may be armed know to sweep areas targeting victims," the message said. "The local term for this activity is 'arrastao.' "
The message also advised U.S. citizens not to bring valuables to the beach.
