US Condemns Israeli Push To Legalize West Bank Settlements

Palestinians perform Friday prayers, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, in Rafah

A spokesperson from the US State Department recently addressed reports regarding Israeli officials advocating for the legalization of Israeli settlements in the West Bank. The spokesperson emphasized that the US government views such actions as detrimental to the peace process in the region.

The State Department reiterated the long-standing US policy that settlements in the West Bank are counterproductive to achieving peace. The spokesperson expressed concern over Israeli support for illegal outposts, labeling such backing as 'dangerous and reckless.'

During a press briefing, the State Department's deputy spokesperson emphasized that the Israeli government's program of expanding settlements is inconsistent with international law. The US government will continue to urge Israel to refrain from funding outposts that have been deemed illegal under Israeli law.

The spokesperson warned that any efforts to expand these outposts would only serve to hinder the goal of peace and stability in the region. The US remains committed to advocating for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and believes that the expansion of settlements only complicates the path to a lasting peace agreement.
