US-bound flight force to make emergency landing at Scottish airport

AN Austrian Airlines flight bound for the United States has been forced to make an emergency landing at Glasgow Airport

The flight, which left Vienna and was expected to arrive at JFK Airport in New York City on Thursday, was diverted to the Scottish airport.

The crew onboard the OS87 flight declared an emergency when it was flying over Scotland after a passenger became unwell.

The pilot of the Austrian Airlines flight landed at Glasgow Airport at 12.28am Thursday morning.

The flight was then rescheduled and continued its journey to JFK Airport, where it arrived after a two and a half hour delay.

A spokesperson for Austrian Airlines said: “We can confirm that our flight from Vienna to NYC with the flight number OS87 had to divert to Glasgow yesterday evening.

“The reason for this was a medical incident and the crew decided to approach the nearest airport.

“The flight arrived in New York with a delay of about 2.5 hours.

“The aircraft is currently on its way back to Vienna.”
