US bases in Britain should be closed

We congratulate the Guardian for the persistent unearthing and publicising of the illegal activities of the NSA (Editorial, 2 June). Edward Snowden should indeed be hailed for doing the world a huge service. At a significant personal cost he told the truth.

In the award-winning film Citizenfour (Snowden is Citizenfour) the US base at Menwith Hill features prominently. It is run by the NSA, NRO and other agencies. RAF Croughton is also to expand and apparently become a second Menwith Hill. And GCHQ at Morwhenstow is propped up by the NSA. The government remains silent. In the light of the Senate vote it is imperative that the plug is pulled on Menwith Hill, Croughton and Morwhenstow.

As the saying goes, “In a time of universal deceit – telling the truth is a revolutionary act”.
