US-based lawyer returns to private practice with Glasgow firm Bellwether Green

Glasgow law firm Bellwether Green has hired commercial contracts, IP and data specialist Emily Wieworka as a consultant after the lawyer returned to private practice.

Wieworka was previously director of commercial and legal at mobile phone firm i-mate, which was owned by Scottish businessman Jim Morrison.

They moved from Dubai to Seattle where they ran a commercial cleaning company. During that time, Wiewiorka held advisory roles with various tech companies.

In her new role, she will advise investors, business and clients in the tech sector.

The move reunites Wiewiorka with April Bingham, head of corporate at Bellwether Green, having worked together nearly 19 years ago. She joins Euan Faulds on the firm's Technology and Media team. Last week, the firm announced the appointment of head of litigation Fran Ennis from Pinsent Masons.

Bingham said: “We are delighted to have Emily working with us. It’s a real coup to have her choose our firm for her return to private practice. I know that our clients are going to love her and find her advice invaluable.”

Wiewiorka said “As we enter the post Covid-19 business era, commercial contracts must change to incorporate additional provisions to detail the obligations of each party in the event of a Force Majeure.

"Notwithstanding the commercial implications of Covid-19, the security of data, and especially customer data, is the single biggest risk to most businesses.”
