"Architectonic" is a Bangkok debut exhibition by visual artist and designer Trey Hurst who locates the exuberance in the formal and abstract sides of architecture, at Play Art House until Dec 27.
As an American living in Bangkok, he creates lush abstracts on handmade paper and fabrics using ink and acrylics. His signature broad brush strokes create swirling connections and juxtapositions, suggesting real and imagined structures that allude to his formal training in architecture.
For his inaugural show, he has organised his works into three series, each exploring a specific aspect of the term "architectonic".
"The Formal" focuses on balance, contrast movement and rhythm; "The Experiential" features abstract patterns of past experiences; and "The Imaginary" presents imagined landscapes and megastructures.
Visitors are encouraged to uncover the array of architectural elements found in these works, and get inspired to imagine their own definitions of the "architectonic" concept.
Play Art House is located on Song Wat Road, Samphanthawong, and opens Tuesday to Thursday from 11am to 4pm and Friday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
