Uruguay leave Manchester United's Edinson Cavani out of squad for medical reasons

Uruguay have said that Manchester United's Edinson Cavani is not in their squad 'for medical reasons'.

United play Manchester City on Saturday and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave an update regarding team news on Friday afternoon.

Solskjaer spoke to the media in his pre-match press conference and he confirmed that Raphael Varane will be out for 'four or five weeks' with the hamstring injury that he sustained against Atalanta while he also revealed that Victor Lindelof is an injury doubt.

There was no mention of Cavani, who came on in the second half as a substitute against Atalanta on Tuesday night.

Uruguay announced their squad for the upcoming international break on Friday evening and yet Cavani was a notable omission

The following statement was released by Uruguay on the matter, claiming that Cavani had been ruled out for 'medical reasons':

"The AUF Health Department communicates that the footballers Sebastián Cáceres, Matías Viña, Federico Valverde, Nicolás De La Cruz, Giorgian De Arrascaeta, Maximiliano Gómez and Edinson Cavani were not summoned for medical reasons."

Cavani started for United against Tottenham in the Premier League last weekend alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
