Urmston and Flixton worst hit as 210 people in Trafford die in COVID-19 pandemic

A total of 210 people have died across Trafford during the COVID-19 outbreak – with Urmston and Flixton the worst-hit areas.

Some 16 fatalities have been recorded in both the Urmston East, and Flixton and Moorside postcodes.

According to the most recent Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures, all postcode areas in Trafford have seen deaths.

Broadheath has the lowest number – two people died between March and May.

The coronavirus death toll has risen again in Greater Manchester (PA)

Sale Moor has 13 recorded deaths; Altrincham West 12; and Timperley East 11 deahts over three months.

An interactive map has been published by the ONS, allowing people to see how many COVID-19 related deaths have occurred in their area (https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/causesofdeath/articles/deathsinvolvingcovid19interactivemap/2020-06-12).

The overall death rate across Trafford is steadily decreasing.

A spokesperson for Trafford council said: “As a council, we are very saddened by the deaths of any of our residents from Covid-19 and we, along with our partners in the NHS, are doing everything we can to keep people safe. We are reviewing the deaths by ward, and although any death is one too many, the numbers overall are small, which means that we cannot comment on ward level figures.

“We know that our oldest residents, especially those with underlying health conditions, are the most vulnerable to COVID-19, and so we are working closely with our care homes in particular to make sure that we reduce the risks. We are pleased to note that the death rate is coming down in the borough.

“We would also like to thank residents across Trafford who have helped support the NHS by following the health advice on hand washing and social distancing. We would urge everyone to continue to follow this advice.”
