The Victoria Road car park is shut due to the ongoing issues following storm damage at the end of last year.

In a Facebook post, National Trust said: "For the safety of visitors, staff and volunteers the Victoria Road car parks are temporarily closed for at least another couple of weeks. We’re sorry for any impact this may have on your plans to visit Formby’s nature haven. We hope to be able to open them by the end of January.

"The storms and high winds at the end of last year caused a number of trees to become damaged and unstable throughout the woodlands.

"The team are working hard with specialist tree surgeons to make these trees safe and will open up areas as soon as work is complete.

"Alternative parking is available at Lifeboat Road L37 2EB. We’re prioritising storm damaged trees in the woodlands around this area to give people plenty of safe space to explore.

"Thank you for your support and understanding."

It has now been revealed that the alternative parking on Lifeboat Road is also shut as BT work to replace a telephone pole.

National Trust posted on its Facebook page: "BT have temporarily closed the road to all vehicles whilst they replace a telegraph pole. Unfortunately this means the Lifeboat Road car park cannot be accessed at this time.

"We'll keep you updated as soon as we know more about how long this will take and when the road is opened again.

"Thanks for your understanding."
