Urgent warning to Leeds United fans ahead of Manchester United clash as massive fire breaks out

Firefighters are currently in attendance just a few streets away from Old Trafford Stadium with football fans currently told to stay away.

For any fans heading to the match at 12:30 today, the fire service are asking them to allow plenty of travel time as it's thought they'll be in attendance for a few hours yet.

As the Manchester Evening News reports, firefighters are now working internally to put out the flames with Greater Manchester Fire having eight fire engines and specialist appliances responding.

The fire is believed to be in a three-storey un-occupied building on Chester Road in Stretford.

The MEN were told by an eye witness: "I can still hear the sirens and the water pumps, there are highways people down there blocking the road.

"Firefighters are using a PA system so there is a lot of noise."

But she added that there is much less smoke now after over three hours of effort by crews at the scene.

For those living or staying in the area, it is heavily advised to keep doors and windows closed.

Road closures currently remain in place with people are urged to avoid the area.

It's hoped that the five fire engines still on scene will be able to leave the site by 12pm, just 30 minutes before kick off.

Leeds United joined up at the team hotel in the city centre last night ahead of today's lunchtime clash with Manchester United and there are expected to be several boosts to Marcelo Bielsa's unit.
