Urgent warning to Irish shoppers in Tesco and Marks and Spencer over safety risk in two popular products

Customers are being warned about the presence of undeclared allergens in two popular food products sold in Tesco and Marks and Spencer.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) says the pair of products – one a chicken curry, the other a popular brand of chocolate-covered nuts – both contain allergens that could make them "unsafe" for some consumers.

M&S's Balanced for You Red Thai Chicken Curry contains milk, which is not on the label of the product – making it unsuitable for those who are allergic to or intolerant of milk.

Meanwhile, Tesco Finest Festive Belgian Dark Chocolate Brazil Nuts contains undeclared sulphur dioxide after being mispackaged with a different product.

Customers with allergies to sulphur dioxide have been urged to steer clear of the product as a result.

The curry was contaminated with the undeclared milk after being packed with the supermarket's Aromatic Lamb Curry product – which does contain milk.

And the nuts in Tesco were packed with its Festive Fruit & Nut Selection, a product that contains sulphur dioxide.

The pair of warnings were issued yesterday by the FSAI, as customers flock to Irish supermarkets ahead of the festive period.

They're among a flurry of food notices posted by the body over the last week.
