Urgent warning over batch of 'contaminated' heroin in circulation

Police have issued an urgent warning about contaminated heroin on the streets of Carmarthenshire.

Officers are advising users to take extra care following reports of a "particularly harmful" batch of the drug in circulation in the county.

Police have not yet revealed what they believe the heroin has been mixed or "cut" with.

Earlier this month a warning was issued in neighbouring Ceredigion after three people overdosed on street Valium pills laced with opiates.

What to do if you find a used needle

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We have reasons to believe that some of the drugs being distributed and used in the Carmarthenshire area at present have been contaminated with other substances and could be extremely dangerous for anyone taking them.

"We would also appeal to drug users to seek medical attention immediately should they become unwell.

She added: "Please share this information with anyone that you believe could come into contact with these drugs."

In an emergency, or if you think someone’s life is at risk, always dial 999
