Missing man Edward Hamilton who has dementia found safe and well, police say

A missing Newcastle man with dementia has been found safe and well, police have said.

Edward Hamilton, 77, had not been seen since he left his home on Newarth Close in Lemington shortly before 3.50pm on Thursday.

Both his family and police became increasingly concerned for his welfare and officers appealed for help from the public in a bid to locate him.

He was described as 5ft 10ins, slim build with grey hair and was believed to be wearing glasses, a light blue jumper and dark trousers.

However, Northumbria Police confirmed on Thursday evening that Edward had been found and thanked everyone for sharing the appeal.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Edward has been found safe and well!

"Thank you to everyone who shared our post and helped bring him home safely."
