Urgent search launched for missing Coatbridge man after 'out of character' disappearance

Police are appealing to the public to trace a missing 40-year-old man from Coatbridge whose disappearance has been described as “completely out of character.”

Paul McMullen was last seen on Sunday at around 12.20pm in the Lanarkshire town’s Burleigh Street.

He left in his car - a black Vauxhall Insignia with registration number SJ66 KWD - and failed to return home and was reported missing to police at 10pm last night.

Mr McMullen is described as around 6ft tall, of heavy build and bald. When last seen he was wearing a black tracksuit and trainers.

Officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries to locate Mr McMullen but attempts to trace him have so far proved unsuccessful.

Inspector Bill McPherson said: “Paul has never been missing before and it is completely out of character for him not to be in touch with his family.

“We are continuing to speak to family and friends for any additional information as to where he might be and we are checking relevant CCTV footage from in and around the Coatbridge areas to try and locate him or his car.

"If anyone has seen Paul or his car, or has any information or knowledge as to his whereabouts, please contact us.”

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3693 of 12 September, 2021.
