Urgent search after 'cries for help' heard coming from Ayrshire river

A major search was launched after cries for help were heard coming from a river in Ayrshire .

Police and Coastguard rescue teams were called to Pinmore Bridge near Girvan around 11am this morning.

A resident in a house near Minuntion Farm phoned emergency services reporting that a person had possibly fallen into the water in the River Stinchar off the B734.

A Coastguard spokesman said: “HM Coastguard was called at around 11.17am today to assist Police Scotland after a report of a possible person in the water in the River Stinchar off the B734.

The search was called off around 4pm and is believed to have been a false alarm.
