An urgent scam warning has been issued to customers of big banks Nationwide, Barclays and Santander.
All three companies are now warning their customers about a new ATM scam which has become a real cause for concern.
The scam has seen fraudsters place grey plates over cash dispensers at ATM machines and has become a worry for banks and its customers.
The scam is leaving some customers walking off without taking their cash, before the scammers later visit and rip away the covering - only to help themselves to the victim's money, Birmingham Live reports.
Santander, Nationwide and Barclays are all banking giants which operate branches across Nottingham and the rest of the UK.
A Nationwide spokesperson said these types of incidents are rare but "can happen to ATMs anywhere at any time".
The spokesperson added: "Nationwide has a range of measures in place to try and combat these types of scams." The bank has urged people to be vigilant and check for any suspicious devices when using ATMs, particularly those located outside.
A Santander spokeswoman said: “Using a cashpoint is easy, convenient and almost always safe. But sometimes criminals tamper with cash machines to steal your card information, PIN, or cash.
“Always be vigilant when using an ATM – look out for any signs it might have been tampered with or damaged but also be aware of covering your PIN and ‘shoulder surfers’ hanging around.”
Barclays, meanwhile, said: “Our message is that if you see anything unusual or suspicious at an ATM, do not use it - report it immediately to the police or the nearest branch."
