An urgent recall has been issued for a batch of cheese sold in Ireland due to fears it could cause symptoms like an allergic reaction.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued the safety alert on Wednesday, saying elevated levels of histamine were found in one batch of The Little Milk Co. Organic Irish Cheddar - Mature.
“In some people, elevated levels of histamine can cause symptoms which are similar to those of an allergic reaction,” it said.
The affected packs are 135g and have the batch code ‘K98’ and a best before date of ‘18.05.22’.

It is understood the cheese is sold nationwide in SuperValu, Tesco and Dunnes Stores as well as in some independent retailers.
Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batch.
Anyone who has bought it is advised to not eat it and return it to the store.
The food safety alert was issued one day after a batch of popular sausages were pulled from shops.
The FSAI said a batch of Denny Gold Medal Skinless Pork Sausages were mislabelled with the wrong use-by date.
The packs had a use-by date of January 29, when it should have been December 29.
“Denny is recalling a batch of its Gold Medal Skinless 16 Pork Sausages due to an incorrect use-by date printed on the label on a small number of packs.
“The correct use-by date is 29 December 2021. Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batch,” the FSAI said.
