The makers of Magnum ice cream have issued an urgent product recall for one of their most popular flavours over allergy fears - after a misprinted label meant the word ‘milk’ was not displayed in English.
Both Food Standards Scotland and the Food Standards Agency in England have urged customers to carefully check the 440ml tubs of their white chocolate frozen dessert over concerns it could affect those with intolerances to lactose.
The flavour is sold in most major supermarkets and is one of the most popular products in the Magnum range.
However, a mix up with the label - which contains vital allergy information to those who have issues with certain ingredients - meant some details, including the fact the product contains milk, were not printed in English.
Makers Unilever have now issued an ‘urgent recall notice’ for products featuring the best before end date September 2021 and the batch codes L9255AT138 and L9255BT138.
They have also encouraged anyone who has purchased a tub not to eat it.
A statement by Unilever UK read: "Magnum is taking the precautionary measure of recalling a limited number of Magnum White ice cream (440ml) due to the potential undeclared presence of milk, as the product has been incorrectly labelled with the Italian back of pack label.
"The safety of the people that buy and use our products is always our number one priority, which is why we are taking the voluntary precaution of recalling these batches as they could pose a safety risk to those with an allergy to milk.
"We can confirm that no other Magnum products are affected."
