Urgent recall issued for batches of milk sold in Spar, Mace, Aldi and Gala over potential bacteria contamination

The Food Safety Authority (FSA) has issued a recall of a number of milk products due potential to harmful bacteria contamination.

The recall is for batches of Arrabawn milk that are potentially unsafe due to the presence of Enterobacteriaceae bacteria.

The FSA has said that point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches.

Enterobacteriaceae are a group of bacteria, of which some can be harmful to humans.

The test for Enterobacteriaceae is used as an indicator of poor hygiene, process failure and/or post-processing contamination of heat processed foods.

However the test itself does not confirm the presence of harmful bacteria.

The milk products in question are sold in Spar, Mace, Aldi and Gala stores among other outlets.

Retailers have been told to remove the implicated batches from sale and to display a point-of-sale recall notice in stores where the affected batches were sold.
