Urgent recall issued for Argos and Currys customers in Ireland over fire risk with vacuum

An urgent recall has been issued for Argos and Currys customers in Ireland after a fire hazard was detected in a brand of wireless vacuums.

BISSELL issued the recall on Tuesday for a number of models of its ‘Cordless Wet Dry Vacuum Floor Cleaners.’

Due to an issue with some battery management circuit boards, they may be susceptible to hot spots, which would pose a risk of overheating - leading to potential fires and burns.

The model number affected by this recall is 2582E, and all batches of the affected model are in the scope of this action.

To determine if your machine is affected, you should look at the model number on the product information label located behind the clean water tank on the back of the machine.

The affected model numbers should match the model numbers listed above.

Officials have warned that the products were sold in Argos and Currys in the Republic of Ireland.

The company itself has warned that even if your product seems to be working fine, you should stop using it immediately.

“Even though your product appears to be safe, we are asking all consumers to remove your device from the charging base,” a spokesperson said.

They also warned that: “All repairs require a BISSELL® Authorized Service technician. Do not repair the product yourself”.

In a statement, the company said: “BISSELL® has spent 146 years producing quality products that consumers can trust. We are proud to have sold millions of products across the world. Above all else, safety is our top priority.

“We are alerting consumers to a potential issue involving our battery management circuit boards on select Cordless Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuum Cleaner models. We are working closely with global consumer safety regulators to issue a voluntary recall of these affected products.

“If you believe your BISSELL® product may be subject to this voluntary recall, please search for the model number behind the clean water tank. The number will be listed in a large black bar on the product information sticker”.

If customers have an affected product, they should remove the vacuum from the charging base, stop using the vacuum and return the product to its original point of purchase.
