Urgent recall for dog food after batches tested positive for salmonella

Pet owners have been asked to return their dog food after batches tested positive for salmonella.

Makers of the The Happy Hounds has launched a recall for certain products in their frozen raw food range, says Kent Live .

Stores that stock the affected chow will put up notices notifying customers why they are being recalled and what to do if they have purchased the pet food.

A Food Standards Agency spokesman said: "Our advice to pet owners: If you have bought any of the above products do not use them.

"Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund."

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause illness in humans and in animals.

Anyone who comes into contact with the pet food, either directly or indirectly, could be at risk.

For example, handling the product, touching feeding bowls or utensils that have touched the product or being in contact with the faeces of animals who have consumed the product all carry a risk.

Salmonella can cause humans to have a fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

While infected animals may not necessarily display signs of illness, symptoms can include diarrhoea.
