Urgent recall for Coca-Cola bottles sold in Scotland over potential safety risk

Coca-Cola has issued a Europe-wide recall for bottles which could pose a safety risk and injure the person opening them.

The product recall has been shared by the Food Standards Agency Scotland as affected batches could have been sold in shops and supermarkets here.

The issue is caused by damaged neck rings on original 1.5 litre bottles with a best before date on September 30, 2020.

FSA Scotland says: “Coca-Cola European Partners is issuing precautionary advice for opening Coca-Cola Original Taste 1.5 litre PET bottles because the bottles may have damaged neck rings which means that the bottle might have a sharp rim edge which could present a safety risk on opening.”

If you have a bottle from the following batches then the advice to open the bottle carefully without putting your hand on the bottle neck ring - or, if you’d rather, you can leave it unopened and call 08000 22 77 11.

The batch codes to look out for can be found on the neck of the bottle, and include 083EK3TT:TT, 084EK3TT:TT, 085EK3TT:TT, 086EK3TT:TT, 087EK3TT:TT, 088EK3TT:TT, 089EK3TT:TT and 090EK3TT:TT

The Coca-Cola bulletin reads: “The safety and quality of our products is of paramount importance and we do all we can to ensure they reach people in perfect condition. We are sorry that on this occasion a small number of our products have not met our required standards.”
