Urgent recall alert issued for popular turkey sold in Dunnes Stores over cooking safety fears

Dunnes Stores has issued an urgent recall notice for a batch of its prime roast turkey over fears customers could be infected by salmonella due to the package instructions.

The supermarket has called back the batch of Irish Turkey Breast Crown with Prime Wings with the pack size 1.5kg and approval number IE 807 EC, after discovering the label mix up.

Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said in a statement.

They say: "The product may be inadequately cooked due to the incorrect weight declaration on the package".

It continues: "If the cooking instructions are followed based on the weight declared on the label, the product may not be adequately cooked, therefore would be unsafe for customers to eat."

People can contract salmonella food poisoning from undercooked turkey, with regular warnings issued around Christmas time in particular urging people to properly cook turkey.
