Urgent product recall for food supplements sold in Irish stores due to presence of pesticide

A number of food supplements sold in Irish stores have been recalled due to the presence of an unauthorised pesticide.

FSAI has issued a warning for customers after pesticide ethylene oxide was found in several batches of Royal Green food supplements.

Continued consumption of food contaminated with ethylene oxide can increase the risk of cancer.

This pesticide is not permitted for use in foods sold in the EU but is approved for use by other countries outside the EU.

The following are the implicated batches:

A notice on the FSAI website said: "The below batches of Royal Green food supplements are being recalled due to the presence of the unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide.

"Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not permitted for use in foods sold in the EU but is approved for use by other countries outside the EU.

"Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there is an increased risk if there is the continued consumption of contaminated food over a long period of time. Therefore, exposure to this substance needs to be minimised.

"Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches."
