Urgent Portugal travel update for anyone with holiday booked

Rules have now changed for travellers heading to Portugal for a holiday.

The Portuguese Government announced today, Thursday 3 February, that those entering Portugal will not be required "to present proof of a negative test result for those who present Covid-19 digital certificate of the EU in any of its forms or other proof of vaccination that has been recognised."

Since the start of December, passengers who have been arriving in Portugal for tourism or business by air have to show a negative test or certificate of vaccination or recovery.

However, from next week, fully vaccinated Brits will no longer need to have show proof of any Covid tests to enter the country.

The Covid-19 digital certificate to enter Portugal without a test must show that the person travelling has had the completion of the primary vaccination series more than 14 days and less than 270 days since the last dose, with a vaccine, or the booster dose.

It did not say when the decision would take effect, but current restrictions are in place until February 9.

Although the Interior Ministry has not confirmed whether the British form of vaccine passport is accepted, it is expected that they will be allowed as a form of certification.
