Urgent police warning after two dogs die following walks on local park

Police have issued a warning to dog owners after two dogs reportedly died following walks on a local park in Trafford.

Officers said the pets tragically died after being walked on Woodstock Park in Broadheath in Altrincham over the past few weeks. The dogs had been let off their leads to run in the park and it is believed they may have eaten something from the bushes, police added.

This was not noticed until the dogs became ill after their walks. Police said Trafford Council is aware and officials will be visiting the park.

Dog owners should be 'extra vigilant', though there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public at this stage. A post on the GMP Trafford South Facebook page yesterday said: "We have received reports that 2 dogs have sadly died over the last few weeks after being walked on Woodstock Park, Broadheath, Altrincham.

"These dogs had a free run of the park and may have eaten/picked up something whilst in the bushes. The owner did not notice anything until the dogs became ill afterwards.

"We are aware of local Facebook pages that have posted regarding these incidents and we ask that dog owners be extra vigilant with their pets when in the park. Trafford council is aware and are conducting a site visit.

"At this time we are not aware of any risk to the public regarding this incident and will put out an update when we have the results of the site visit."
