Urgent police appeal over 'high-risk' missing man last seen leaving Manchester Royal Infirmary

An urgent appeal has been issued by police trying to find a 'high-risk' missing man.

Stephen Cottingham was last seen walking out of Manchester Royal Infirmary on Wednesday, police said.

It's understood he has dementia.

Mr Cottingham is 54 and from the Clayton area.

Greater Manchester Police said in an appeal that he was last seen at about 3.55pm on Wednesday walking along Oxford Road towards Manchester city centre.

The force said he had just left Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Police said they and his family were becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare.

The appeal is being circulated on social media along with a picture of Mr Cottingham.

A CCTV image of Mr Cottingham near to the MRI has also been issued.

Writing on Facebook, the GMP city centre team issued a 'high-risk missing appeal'.

Mr Cottingham is described by police as white, slim and balding.

He's approximately 6ft tall and was last seen wearing a blue hooded top with lighter blue stripe on the arms, a grey T-shirt, blue tracksuit bottoms and white and blue trainers.

Mr Cottingham's family are believed to be searching for him in and around the city centre.

GMP has issued an urgent appeal (MEN)

GMP said in a statement: "Stephen Cottingham, aged 54, was last seen at about 3.55pm on Wednesday 8 January 2020 walking along Oxford Road towards the city centre after he had just left Manchester Royal Infirmary.

"He has connections to Manchester city centre, Clayton, Hyde and Hattersley."

The force added: "Stephen is also believed to suffer from dementia.

"Officers and the family of Stephen are becoming increasingly concerned for him and want to make sure he is found safe and well.

"Anyone with information about Stephen’s whereabouts is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 2332 of 08/01/2020."

No further information has been revealed.
