Urgent appeals launched for water, sun cream and after sun as heatwave hits Dublin's homeless

An urgent appeal has been launched for water, sun cream, and after sun for Dublin's homeless community as temperatures continue to soar in the capital.

Inner City Helping Homeless started the Operation Hydration campaign to keep the city's homeless population hydrated in the searing sun.

Anthony Flynn, Dublin City councillor and founder of ICHH, tweeted about the campaign to raise awareness.

He said: "With temperatures continuing to soar we are urgently appealing for donations of water.

"Important we keep the homeless community hydrated through the warm spell.

"If you can assist in donating water contact admin@ichh.ie or call 018881804."

The Feed Our Homeless charity has started a similar campaign to ensure all those on the streets have access to water during the heatwave.

The Cool Water Campaign was launched by the charity on Monday and will continue throughout the week.

Announcing the campaign on Facebook, the charity said "FOH Outreach vehicles / teams will be out across city today and over the coming days distributing cold bottles of water to help people who may not have access to cold drinks throughout the day.

"If you would like to drop off any donations of water please drop them into Feed Our Homeless head office & Distribution Centre in Finglas, Unit 7 Jamestown Business Park, Jamestown Road, Dublin 11."
