Missing Durham 12-year-old Kiera Simpson found safe and well

A missing 12-year-old girl from County Durham has been found safe and well following a police appeal.

Police launched an urgent appeal to help find Kiera Simpson who was last seen at her home in the Murton area of County Durham on Saturday at approximately 11am.

Durham Constabulary put out a photograph of the schoolgirl on their social media pages along with their appeal on Saturday afternoon (December 26).

The force asked for anyone with information on Kiera's whereabouts to contact them.

However, police on Saturday evening confirmed that the missing girl has been found safe and well and is back at home with her family.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "The 12-year-old girl who went missing in Murton has been found safe and well and is now safely back with her family. Thanks to everyone who shared our appeal."

The spokesperson previously said: "Police are appealing for help to find 12-year-old Kiera Simpson, who was last seen at her home in the Murton area at approximately 11am this morning.

"Anyone who has seen Kiera or knows her whereabouts is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101 and quote incident 130 of December 26."
