'Urgent appeal' from police investigating tragic death of pensioner in Northumberland car crash

Police have made a plea for vital information after a pensioner was killed in a Northumberland car crash.

A second man was also seriously injured in the collision which killed 76-year-old David Henderson, from Blyth.

At 11am on Saturday, September 5, Northumbria Police officers were called to a collision between a blue Ford C Max and a silver Renault Clio, near Weldon Bridge, on the A697 south of Longframlington.

Mr Henderson, the driver of the Clio, was pronounced as deceased at the scene, while the 60-year-old male driver of the Ford was hospitalised and received treatment for what police called "serious, but non-life-threatening injuries".

Police launched an investigation and asked for any witnesses to come forward and share any information or dash cam footage.

Now, they've issued "another urgent appeal" in the hopes of tracing anyone who had been travelling southbound on the A697, between Longframlington and Longhorsey, or was near Weldon Bridge shortly before the incident.

Sergeant Matt Sykes of Northumbria Police Motor Patrols team, said: “Our investigation into this tragic collision remains ongoing we are now re-issuing our appeal for information.

“This was a very serious collision which killed one man and left another seriously injured and we are asking for anyone with information who hasn’t yet come forward to get in touch.

"We are especially interested in hearing from any motorists who were in the area around 11am, travelling between Longframlington and Longhorsley near the Anglers Arms.”
