Urgent appeal after life-saving mountain rescue equipment stolen from car

A mountain rescue team has hit out at thieves who stole life-saving equipment from a car.

Expensive jackets, radios, helmets and waterproof clothing were all swiped from a vehicle belonging to a member of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.

Together the haul - all funded from public donations - is worth around £2,500, the team said.

Police are investigating and have now issued an appeal for witnesses.

Founded in 1968, the team is now said to be one of the busiest and best-equipped in the country.

Writing on Facebook, they said the property was all marked 'mountain rescue' and used regularly to help people in distress - adding to the thieves: "So it isn't much use to you."
