Dangerous Amazon phone charger warning as it poses 'high risk' of electric shock

iPhone users who have bought a fast charger listed on Amazon have been warned it poses a "high risk" of giving them an electric shock. The TOPK Fast Charger PD40W has been found to have non-compliant plug dimensions which mean it has potential access to live parts.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued the warning on the charger which is manufactured in china. It said: "The product presents a high risk of electric shock due to the potential access to live parts through noncompliant plug dimensions."

It added: "The disposition and size of the live pins do not meet the dimensional requirements of the relevant standard and will not fit fully into a wall socket. This means the live pins are exposed and users could potentially touch live parts when unplugging, or plugging in, the plug from a socket."

It said the charger did not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The notice added the device had been rejected at the border and removed from the Amazon online marketplace.

The affected charger has a model number of B15-C2, barcode X001I0QSL9 and ASIN B09WW1R8H3. It is from China and is described as a wall plug 40W fast charger, with two sockets for USB-C charging cables.
