Urfi Javed responds "periods, first day" when asked "tabiyat theek nahi hai?"; know how to deal with painful menstrual cramps

Period cramps can be distressing. Not only does it cause extreme fatigue but it also sucks out all the energy from the body. But unfortunately, even in a developing world, menstruation is not a subject widely discussed. People usually avoid speaking about it and many women suffer because of the unawareness around it.

However, television actress Urfi Javed, who was recently a part of the reality show Bigg Boss 14, breaks the taboo around menstruation. On being asked by a paparazzo "tabiyat theek nahi hai", she replied saying "periods, first day."

The actress looked tired, constantly massaging her belly, while she posed for photographers.

How period pain may feel

A woman experiencing menstruation may feel bloated, have breast tenderness, experience irritability and abdominal pain.

Painful periods can be divided into two types namely primary and secondary dysmenorrhea. Primary dysmenorrhea is the most common kind of period pain, which is caused by having too many prostaglandins, which are chemicals that your uterus produces. This can lead to cramps that start a day or two before your period and last for a few days.

Secondary dysmenorrhea often starts when you're older. Conditions like endometriosis and uterine fibroids usually affect your uterus or other reproductive organs, leading to pain.

Tips to soothe menstrual cramps

Most period cramps can be managed at home with natural remedies. These include:

- Using a heating pad on your abdominal region and your back

- Taking a warm bath

- Massaging your abdomen

- Indulging in relaxation techniques like yoga and meditation

- Having light meals with high nutrient content

- Staying hydrated

Additionally, cut down your salt, alcohol, caffeine, and sugar intake to avoid bloating.

However, if the pain still persists or grows worse, contact your physician.
