The three-dimensional model was made by artists Tom Hunter and James McKinnon in 1994 as a replica of a row of houses in Ellingfort Road in Hackney. Nicknamed The Ghetto, the street was squatted by a community of artists who faced regular threats of eviction from the local council.

This 2009 artwork, EnTWINed, by Amrit and Rabindra Singh, was created in response to two paintings by Henry Nelson O’Neil, dating from 1857 and 1858, of British soldiers leaving London for the first Indian war of independence, and returning home again.
