It’s not hard to find someone from Dwayne Haskins’ past to tell you that he is going to succeed at whatever he puts his mind to.
So it’s no surprise that the Washington Redskins rookie QB’s former coach is singing the praises of his previous star. Urban Meyer, formerly of Ohio State, recently told D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he believes Haskins will find a lot of success at the next level.
“He’s going to be great,” Meyer said. “He’s very intelligent. His only issue is that he played for just one year. Every other thing, he’s got it. Great kid, very smart. He was the most accurate passer that I’ve ever had.”
That last part is the most notable part of the quote from a three-time national champion. Meyer has coached some talented QBs in his day — namely Tim Tebow, Troy Smith and Braxton Miller — though all of them struggled at the next level.
It is no shock to hear a former coach offering words of confidence and approval over a former player, especially one of Haskins’ stature. If he can prove himself at the next level, he will have no problem being the most successful quarterback that Meyer ever coached.
