Urban Meyer gives his thoughts on the Chase Young situation

Urban Meyer is a polarizing figure. Love or hate him, one thing you can’t do is question the love he has for his former players. Meyer shared his thoughts on the news of his former defensive star being suspended for an NCAA investigation.

Urban of course was first asked if he knew of Young’s improprieties, which were alleged to take place in 2018 when Meyer was the head coach of an already drama filled season. His response:

“I first found out early in the week, talked to Gene Smith and was just as shocked as everybody. I think my understanding is the transparency – Chase and his family have been very forthright – which is the key whenever you’re dealing with NCAA issues. He’s working with Ohio State and the NCAA to get this thing wrapped up. My understanding is once again, the most important thing is transparency, honesty. He realized he made a mistake – this is what I always appreciated about a guy like Chase – he made a mistake, he owned it and he’s working to get it corrected.” – Urban Meyer

There will certainly be the haters who say Meyer knew. That this is just part of the controversy that follows Urban Meyer coached teams, but until we hear otherwise, we’ll believe what the former OSU coach has to say.

Urban was also asked if he thinks Chase Young would sit out the rest of the season if he is reinstated. With the Buckeyes sitting at No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings, Meyer says without a doubt:

“Here’s what I think has happened in the last five, six, seven years is that if you’re playing for the College Football Playoff, absolutely. I think you should come back anyway. I dealt with it when Nick Bosa left the team last year and I understand why, absolutely understand why. You’re talking about a top five player picked, 30 million dollars. But the trend right now is that as long as you’re in the hunt for the big prize, he’ll come back. I just think Chase loves his team, he’ll come back and give it everything he’s got.” – Urban Meyer

The Buckeyes definitely have something to play for and Chase Young has looked like the most dominant player on the most dominant team in the country.

Buckeye nation will hold its collective breath and wait to see what unfolds.
